Leave the hustling and bustling of Fes and take a day trip to one of the beautiful mountain ranges in Morocco. The Middle Atlas is known as the green Atlas. You will be amazed by the mountain fresh air, blue lakes, vast cedar forests, fascinating landscapes, and wildlife. Your day trip will be a combination of a gentle hike, sightseeing, and cultural discovering.
After you leave Fes, your first stop will be in Dayt Aoua Lake, one of the most popular lakes in Morocco, and it is surrounded by woodlands in an area notably rich in birdlife. The lake is a popular picnic destination for families on weekends.
Your journey will be continued towards the famous French style city Ifrane, known as Africa’s “Little Switzerland,” Ifrane is probably one of the cleanest cities in Morocco. The housing and infrastructure were built in the late 1920s by the French. The city comes with a long and interesting history. Known as Oufrane by the Jews, it was reputed to be the ancient capital of a Jewish Kingdom around 500 B.C.E.
After having a delicious lunch in a local family house, you may take an hour hike in the peaceful cedar forests of Azerou. Your gentle walk through the Gouraud trail will allow you to sniff the aromatic plants of the Atlas Mountains and come across a small group of Barbary Macaques or maybe wild boars, foxes, jackals …. etc.
On your way back to Fes, your driver will take you to explore the western side of the mountains with its beautiful lush plateaus of vegetables, farms of apples, cherries, and vast vineyards. Arrive in Fes by late afternoon.
