Later Volubilis became the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. From the 1st century AD onwards, Volubilis grew under Roman rule and was the Roman Empire’s most remote city. Volubilis now is the most visited areological site in Morocco.
After the visit of Volubilis, you take a short drive to the nearby town of Moulay Idriss, founded by the great-grandson of the Prophet Muhammad: Moulay Idriss I in the late 8th century, this inconspicuous village of 12,000 souls is still highly sacred to Muslims.
